Madris signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. He'll be in major-league camp during spring training. Madris was a waiver claim by the Tigers two offseasons ago but was traded before playing for them. The 27-year-old has managed just a .500 OPS over 51 games to this point at the major-league level. • Astros' Bligh Madris: Clears waivers

The Astros outrighted Madris to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday. He'll remain in the organization after none of MLB's other 29 teams put in a waiver claim for the 27-year-old outfielder after he was designated for assignment prior to Opening Day. Madris appeared in 39 games at the big-league level as a rookie with the Pirates in 2022, slashing .177/.244/.265 with a home run and two steals in 123 plate appearances.

Madris was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Madris reached the majors for the first time in his career last season but slashed just .177/.244/.265 over 123 plate appearances with the Pirates. He had a much better spring, but the 27-year-old outfielder will return to the minors to serve as organizational depth.

  • Tigers' Bligh Madris: Cast off 40-man roster

Madris was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Wednesday. Madris was claimed off waivers by the Tigers in mid-November after being designated for assignment by Tampa Bay, but he'll be cast off the 40-man roster after Detroit claimed Mario Feliciano off waivers from the Brewers on Wednesday. It wouldn't be surprising to see Madris remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Tigers' Bligh Madris: Claimed by Detroit

The Tigers claimed Madris off waivers from the Rays on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The Tigers have decided to take a chance and will add Madris to the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old infielder figures to compete for a utility role in spring training.

  • Pirates' Bligh Madris: Optioned to Indianapolis

Madris was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Madris posted just a .345 OPS over 24 games after being recalled by the Pirates in late July, so the club decided to send him back down to iron some things out. If he is able to he could return to the majors before the campaign comes to a close.

  • Pirates' Bligh Madris: Heads back to bench

Madris will sit Friday against the Giants. Madris briefly appeared to be stepping into a starting role, but that's less clear now, as he's been on the bench for three of the last four games. His .190/.253/.286 slash line in 91 trips to the plate this season certainly doesn't look like starting material.

  • Pirates' Bligh Madris: Getting steady run

Madris will serve as the Pirates' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Tuesday's game against the Brewers. He'll get his fourth start in the last five games despite having gone hitless in 12 at-bats since getting called up from Triple-A Indianapolis last Thursday. Though the Pirates have fully embraced their rebuild and are handing several rookies steady playing time of late, Madris will still likely need to show some signs of progress at the plate to ensure he sticks in a near-everyday role for the duration of the campaign.

Madris went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Thursday against the Phillies. Madris was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take the roster spot of Bryan Reynolds (personal) and started in right field while hitting fifth. He doesn't have the same pedigree as other Pirates prospects vying for playing time in the outfield, and Madris has a mediocre .246/.283/.386 slash line across his first 60 plate appearances in the majors. He has multiple paths to playing time though, as he will also get looks at first base, per Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
