Klingberg (undisclosed) was placed on the long-term injured reserve list Thursday. The move is presumably retroactive to Nov. 11, which is when Klingberg last played. If that's the case, the earliest he can be activated is Dec. 12 for Toronto's game against the Rangers. Klingberg has five assists, 11 hits and 14 blocks in 14 contests this campaign. Conor Timmins (lower body) is day-to-day at this point, so the defenseman might be activated off LTIR soon and play regularly while Klingberg is unavailable.... See More ... See Less

Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Will miss next two games
Klingberg (undisclosed) will miss Toronto's games against Chicago on Friday and Pittsburgh on Saturday, per David Alter of Sports Illustrated. There's no timetable for Klingberg's return, but it's not a great sign that he's already been ruled out for the Maple Leafs' next two contests. Klingberg has five assists in 14 games this season. He was last in the lineup Nov. 11 versus Vancouver.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Not playing Sunday
Klingberg (undisclosed) has been ruled out of Sunday's tilt in Sweden versus Minnesota, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports. It's beginning to look like Klingberg is headed to injured reserve, and possibly long-term injured reserve, as his undisclosed injury is not getting any better. The Swedish native practiced for just 10 minutes Saturday before leaving the ice. Klingberg has five assists in 14 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Doubtful Friday
Klingberg (undisclosed) is likely to miss Friday's game against Detroit, per Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun. Klingberg missed last Friday's 5-4 shootout win over Calgary because of an undisclosed injury before returning Saturday against Vancouver. Despite logging 19:00 of ice time versus the Canucks, coach Sheldon Keefe suggested Wednesday that the defenseman hasn't fully recovered. Klingberg has five assists, a minus-7 rating, 11 hits and 14 blocks in 14 appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Back in action Saturday
Klingberg (undisclosed) will return to the lineup versus Vancouver on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Klingberg sat out Friday's tilt versus Calgary. He's off to a slow start, with only five helpers through 13 games. Klingberg should quarterback the second power-play unit Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Suffers undisclosed injury
Klingberg will miss Friday's tilt versus Calgary with an undisclosed injury, according to Jonas Siegel of The Athletic. Klingberg has been a major disappointment this season, picking up five assists in 13 games. He was expected to quarterback the top power-play unit, but he has been replaced by Morgan Rielly. Klingberg could return to the lineup as early as Saturday versus the Canucks.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Can score but can't stop others
Klingberg, who has three assists in as many games, has been on the ice for an NHL-high 21 high-danger attempts at five-on-five. He's tied with former partner Jake McCabe -- it's clear the duo wasn't meant to be together. Klingberg's defensive limitations are already showing, so he will need to continue to be highly productive with the man advantage to keep his ice time up. He'll skate on the third pair with Mark Giordano five-on-five.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Two helpers in Leafs debut
Klingberg picked up a pair of assists in Wednesday's 6-5 shootout win over the Canadiens. Skating alongside Jake McCabe on Toronto's second pairing, Klingberg set up Noah Gregor's tally in the second period before setting up William Nylander on the power play later in the frame. The 31-year-old defenseman posted 33 points (10 goals, 23 assists) in 67 games between Anaheim and Minnesota last season. So long as he continues to see time on the Maple Leafs' top power-play unit, Klingberg should provide steady offensive production this year.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Set to play Wednesday
Klingberg (upper body) is good to play Wednesday versus Montreal, per Mike Stephens of SI Now. Klingberg was injured Sept. 27, but he won't end up missing a regular-season contest due to the issue. He's projected to serve on the second pairing with Jake McCabe and see time on the top power-play unit. Klingberg had 10 goals and 33 points in 67 games between Anaheim and Minnesota last year.... Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Back on the ice
Klingberg (upper body) took part in Thursday's optional morning skate, Mark Masters of TSN reports. Per Masters, Klingberg, who was injured Sept. 27, hopes to play in Saturday's preseason finale against Detroit. If he sits out that contest, the 31-year-old defender should be ready for Opening Night on Wednesday versus Montreal. Klingberg is expected to quarterback the first power-play unit with the Maple Leafs this season and should get 45-50 points if he can remain healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Not practicing Friday
Klingberg (upper body) is not at practice Friday, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports. Klingberg suffered the injury in Wednesday's preseason contest versus the Sabres. The 31-year-old is expected to quarterback the first power-play unit and should be expected to get 45-50 points this season, if he remains healthy. Consider Klingberg day-to-day.... See More ... Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Exits Wednesday's game
Klingberg left Wednesday's preseason game versus the Sabres after something tightened up during the first period, David Alter of Sports Illustrated reports. Klingberg's exit sounds precautionary for now, though the 31-year-old defenseman will be evaluated further Thursday. Klingberg is expected to be the Maple Leafs' quarterback on the first power-play unit as well as a top-four option this season. Given his importance to the team's offense, it's understandable that the Leafs will be cautious with him during the preseason slate.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Slides onto top PP unit
Klingberg is practicing on the Leafs' top power-play unit, replacing Morgan Rielly, reports The Athletic. There's no guarantee Klingberg will stick in this role, but he adds a different dimension to PP1 than the incumbent. Klingberg is a right-handed shot who is unafraid to fire the puck, while the left-shooting Rielly can be guilty of over-passing. Klingberg delivered 148 power-play points over his first eight NHL seasons, which were 11th-most at his position over that span. His 65 primary assists ranked 10th in the same period. The Leafs' top unit includes Mitchell Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander and John Tavares.... See More ... See Less -
Maple Leafs' John Klingberg: Signs with Maple Leafs
Klingberg signed a one-year, $4.15 million contract with the Maple Leafs on Saturday, Chris Johnston of TSN reports. Klingberg will bring the Maple Leafs some much needed offense from the blue line. The talented blueliner had 10 goals and 23 assists in 67 games split between Anaheim and Minnesota last season, including two goals and 10 points on the power play. Klingberg's offensive numbers should improve with the Maple Leafs given Toronto's talent up front.... See More ... See Less -
Wild's John Klingberg: Two points in Game 4
Klingberg tallied a goal and an assist in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Stars. Klingberg got Minnesota on the board in the third period, beating Jake Oettinger with a wrist shot after corralling a deflected puck. Klingberg would add a second point later in the frame with an assist on Frederick Gaudreau's tally. The 30-year-old defenseman has four points (a goal and three assists) through two postseason games against his former team after missing the first two games of the series with a lower-body injury. Klingberg tallied 10 goals and 33 points in 67 regular-season games between Minnesota and Anaheim.... See More ... See Less -
Wild's John Klingberg: Notches two helpers in return
Klingberg (lower body) registered two assists in a 5-1 victory over Dallas in Game 3 on Friday. Klingberg missed the first two contests of the playoff series due to the injury, but he made his presence felt Friday. In addition to providing two helpers, the defenseman also had a plus-3 rating, two shots and a hit in 16:38 of ice time. Klingberg, who had 10 goals and 33 points in 2022-23, averaged 20:37 over 67 regular-season outings, so he did play a diminished role in his return. However, the 30-year-old might see his playing time increase as the playoffs progress.... See More ... See Less -
Wild's John Klingberg: In Friday's lineup
Klingberg (lower body) is suiting up for Game 3 against Dallas on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Klingberg missed the first two games of the series with a lower-body issue. He tallied nine points in 17 games with the Wild during the regular season, including five over the final eight contests. He's expected to skate in a bottom-four role.... See More ... See Less -
Wild's John Klingberg: Appears ready for action
Klingberg (lower body) appears to be on track to draw into the lineup for Friday's Game 3 versus the Stars, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports. Although Klingberg appears to be trending in the right direction, confirmation on his status for Friday night's contest may not surface until the Wild takes the ice for pregame warmups. If he's able to go, look for Klingberg to draw into a bottom-four role for Game 3.... See More ... See Less -
Wild's John Klingberg: Sidelined for Game 2
Klingberg (lower body) isn't expected to play in Wednesday's Game 2 versus the Stars, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports. With Klingberg set to miss a second straight contest, look for Jon Merrill to remain paired with rookie Brock Faber on Wednesday. Klingberg, who's picked up nine points through 17 games since being traded to the Wild at the deadline, will be reevaluated ahead of Friday's Game 3 against Dallas.... See More ... See Less -
Wild's John Klingberg: Out for Game 1
Klingberg (lower body) is not in Monday's Game 1 lineup against Dallas, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports. Klingberg was considered questionable for Game 1 but isn't quite ready to get back in the lineup. The veteran blueliner will be considered questionable again for Game 2 on Wednesday. He scored nine points in 17 games after being traded to the Wild.... See More ... See Less
