  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Guarding road net Friday

Primeau is expected to start on the road against San Jose on Friday. Primeau has a 1-2-0 record, 3.98 GAA and .885 save percentage in three contests this season. He surrendered six goals on 42 shots in a 6-5 loss to Vegas in his previous start last Thursday. The Sharks, who rank last offensively with 1.47 goals per game, are likely to give Primeau less trouble.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Needs a little help from friends

Primeau made 36 saves in a 6-5 loss to Vegas on Thursday. Primeau wasn't the problem -- he needed help from his teammates, and as Canadiens' coach Martin St. Louis said after the game, "We shot ourselves in the foot a lot." Primeau was coming off a sharp win over Detroit on Nov. 9, but the Golden Knights are a far better team. There's little need to carry Primeau on your fantasy roster unless you're in a deep dynasty.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Starting Thursday

Primeau will defend the home crease versus Vegas on Thursday, Patrick Friolet of RDS.ca reports. Primeau is 1-1-0 this season -- he's stopped 56 of 62 shots during his two appearances. He defeated the Red Wings on Nov. 9 and will try to make it two in a row against the Golden Knights. Vegas is 12-3-1, having averaged 3.63 goals per contest.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Notches first win

Primeau made 27 saves in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Red Wings. Making just his second start of the season, Primeau probably wanted another crack at Detroit's tying goal in the third period -- a sharp-angle shot from J.T. Compher that caught the netminder slightly off the near post -- but Cole Caufield bailed him out in OT. It's Primeau's first win of 2023-24 and just the fourth in his NHL career over 23 appearances, but as long as Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault are healthy, work will be hard to come by for the Canadiens' No. 3 goalie.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Between pipes Thursday

Primeau will tend the twine on the road against Detroit on Thursday. Primeau will make just his second appearance of the season as the Canadiens continue to rotate through all three backstops. In his prior outing, the 24-year-old Michigan native gave up four goals on 33 shots (.879 save percentage) in a losing effort versus the Devils. Even if Primeau puts together a strong performance, he will likely continue to see limited opportunities as long as all three goalies remain on the roster.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Fades late against Devils

Primeau stopped 29 of 33 shots in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Devils. New Jersey's final goal was scored into an empty net. Primeau kept Montreal in the game early as he made his first start of the season, but the Devils' power play eventually took control as New Jersey pulled away in the third period. Jake Allen has started three games so far and Sam Montembeault has started two, and Primeau likely didn't do enough Tuesday to turn the Habs' crease into a true three-way timeshare. It'll likely take a trade or an injury to one of the goalies ahead of him in the pecking order for the 24-year-old Primeau to see consistent action.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Set to start Tuesday

Primeau is expected to start at home against New Jersey on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Primeau is making his first start of the 2022-23 campaign, and it comes on the second half of a back-to-back -- Jake Allen saved 36 of 37 shots in Montreal's 3-1 win over Buffalo on Monday. Primeau has a 3-12-2 record, 4.11 GAA and .871 save percentage in 21 career contests. The Devils have averaged 3.75 goals per game this year.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Loaned to AHL

Primeau was reassigned to AHL Laval on Sunday. Primeau has appeared in three games with Montreal this season. If Jake Allen (lower body) isn't ready to return Wednesday against the Islanders, the 23-year-old Primeau could be back with the big club.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Recalled from AHL

Primeau was recalled from AHL Laval on Saturday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Primeau stopped 28 shots in a 5-4 loss to AHL Cleveland on Friday. He is 0-2-0 at the NHL level this season, stopping 46 of 54 shots.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Back in AHL

Primeau was sent to AHL Laval on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. Primeau gave up five goals on 21 shots in a 5-0 loss to Detroit on Tuesday. He is 0-2-0, but played well in his previous loss, stopping 24 of 26 shots in a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on March 28. Primeau was 16-14-6 with a 3.07 GAA and .906 save percentage at AHL Laval before his promotion.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Struggles in loss

Primeau allowed five goals on 21 shots in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Red Wings. Primeau allowed a pair of goals in each of the first two periods and another in the third frame. The 23-year-old netminder falls to 0-2-0 with an .852 save percentage in his first three outings this season. Primeau shouldn't be relied on for fantasy purposes, though he could see a few more starting opportunities down the stretch on a rebuilding Montreal team.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Tending twine Tuesday

Primeau will be recalled from AHL Laval to start Tuesday's home game against Detroit. Primeau made 24 saves last Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia prior to being returned to the minors. This will be his third NHL appearance of the 2022-23 campaign. In 20 career contests with the Canadiens, Primeau has a 3-11-2 record with a 4.05 GAA and an .876 save percentage.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Sent down after start

Primeau was reassigned to AHL Laval following Tuesday's game versus the Flyers. Primeau allowed two goals on 26 shots in a 3-2 loss in his first NHL start of the season. The 23-year-old netminder may get another look down the stretch, but Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault figure to see most of the starts to close out the campaign.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Starting Tuesday

Primeau will patrol the crease in Philadelphia on Tuesday. With Montreal out of the playoff hunt, the team will turn to Primeau down the stretch to get him some more NHL action. In 19 career games with Montreal, the 23-year-old has gone 3-10-2 while registering a brutal 4.18 GAA and .873 save percentage. His last NHL win actually came against the Flyers when he stopped 37 of 39 shots during the 2021-22 season.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Appears in relief

Primeau appeared in relief Thursday in a 6-2 loss to Florida. He made six saves on seven shots in the third period in his season debut. He's up on an emergency recall because of an injury to Jake Allen (upper body) and could see more time should an IR stint be needed. Primeau was solid Thursday, but it's a tall task playing behind the Montreal D.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Emergency recalled

Primeau was called up from AHL Laval on Monday under emergency conditions. Primeau will serve as the backup to Sam Montembeault against the Kraken on Monday due to the injury to Jake Allen (upper body). Depending on how long Allen is on the shelf, the 23-year-old Primeau could see his first NHL action of the year during an upcoming back-to-back against the Islanders and Rangers on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Heads back to minors

Primeau was returned to AHL Laval on Tuesday. Montreal summoned Primeau ahead of Monday's game against Pittsburgh because Jake Allen (parental leave) was unavailable. Primeau wasn't in net for the Canadiens' 3-2 overtime win against the Penguins.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Up with Canadiens

Primeau was summoned by Montreal on Monday. The Canadiens needed an extra goaltender because Jake Allen (parental leave) won't play Monday versus Pittsburgh. Primeau had a 4.62 GAA and .868 save percentage in 12 games with Montreal in 2021-22. He has a 5.58 GAA and .842 save percentage in one AHL contest this season.

  • Canadiens' Cayden Primeau: Takes loss Thursday

Primeau stopped 29 of 33 shots in Thursday's 4-3 preseason loss to the Senators. Primeau allowed a goal 38 seconds into the game, when the Canadiens gave up the puck in their own end. He also allowed a goal on a penalty shot. The good news is that Montreal did not allow a power-play goal -- Ottawa had five chances -- after surrendering six over the last two preseason games while on the penalty kill. The 23-year-old netminder will be the primary goalie at AHL Laval while Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault hold the fort in the NHL.
