Urias is currently projected as the Mariners' starting third baseman following their trade of Eugenio Suarez, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Seattle acquired Urias from Boston last week and he's now at the top of the team's depth chart at third base, although it's possible the Mariners bring someone else in at the position this offseason. Urias had a dreadful 2023, posting just a .636 OPS with three homers in 52 games while spending a chunk of the year in the minors. He looked like a solid regular a couple years ago, though, and is just 26 years of age.... See More ... See Less

Mariners' Luis Urias: Traded to Seattle
The Mariners acquired Urias from the Red Sox on Friday in exchange for Isaiah Campbell, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Urias was likely going to be non-tendered by the Red Sox ahead of Friday's deadline had this trade not come together. He posted a disappointing .194/.337/.299 batting line over 177 plate appearances this past year between Milwaukee and Boston, but the former top prospect is only 26 years old and could be a platoon option at second base for the Mariners in 2024.... Red Sox's Luis Urias: Placed on injured list
The Red Sox placed Urias on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left calf strain, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Urias' placement on the injured list is backdated to Thursday, so he'll be eligible to return for the final game of the season Oct. 1. Pablo Reyes and Ceddanne Rafaela figure to see an increase in playing time at second base, and Enmanuel Valdez will come up from Triple-A Worcester to fill Urias' roster spot.... See More ... Red Sox's Luis Urias: Sitting out with calf injury
Urias (calf) is absent from the lineup for Friday's tilt against the White Sox. Urias tweaked his left calf during Wednesday's game versus the Rangers and isn't ready to play even after Thursday's off day. Ceddanne Rafaela is covering second base for the Red Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Exits with calf tightness
Urias was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to left calf tightness, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. The 26-year-old has recently been working as Boston's primary second baseman and went 1-for-3 with a strikeout before leaving Wednesday's contest. Urias will have a team day off Thursday to recover before Friday's series opener versus the White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Gaining traction at keystone
Urias will start at second base and bat eighth Monday against the Rangers. Urias will stick in the lineup for the sixth time in seven games and looks to have usurped Pablo Reyes as the Red Sox's preferred option at the keystone. The 26-year-old hasn't seemed to earn the extra playing time based on his performance, however; he's slashing just .185/.313/.259 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate thus far in September.... Red Sox's Luis Urias: Losing work to Valdez
Urias is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. On the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher (Zach Eflin) for the third time in four games, Urias looks as though he could be moving into a short-side platoon role at second base. The lefty-hitting Enmanuel Valdez will get another look at the keystone Tuesday after going 2-for-7 with a walk and two RBI between his last two starts.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Sits in second straight
Urias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Urias is on the bench for a second straight game and looks as though he may not be handed an everyday role at the keystone while the Red Sox await Pablo Reyes' (elbow) return from the 10-day injured list. Enmanuel Valdez will pick up another start at second base after going 1-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's 9-5 win.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Riding pine Saturday
Urias is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals. Urias is hitting .179 with more walks (six) than strikeouts (five) and one home run over his last 10 games. Enmanuel Valdez will start at the keystone while batting ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Moves to bench Tuesday
Urias is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros. After reaching base in three of his five plate appearances in Monday's 13-5 loss to Houston, Urias will give way to David Hamilton at second base Tuesday. While Pablo Reyes (elbow) is on the shelf, Urias is still likely to see the bulk of the starts at the keystone.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Could be primary second baseman
Urias will start at second base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Astros, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Urias will get his third straight start, this time manning second base after filling in for Rafael Devers (wrist) at third base in Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Dodgers. Though Devers is back in the lineup Monday, Urias looks like he could operate as the Red Sox's primary option at the keystone in the short term after Pablo Reyes (elbow) was moved to the 10-day injured list. Since being acquired from the Brewers on Aug. 1 and joining Boston a few days later, Urias is slashing .213/.339/.383 with two home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs through his first 16 games with the Red Sox.... Red Sox's Luis Urias: Launches another grand slam
Urias started at second base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Yankees. Urias belted his second grand slam in as many games. Thursday's granny came on his final at-bat, and Saturday's shot came on the first pitch of his first plate appearance, giving him grand slams on consecutive pitches, the first Red Sox player to achieve that feat. Since Trevor Story came off the 60-day injured list in early August, Urias has shared starts at second base with Pablo Reyes.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Pops grand slam in loss
Urias went 2-for-3 with a grand slam in Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Nationals. The Red Sox were getting rolled by Washington until Urias and Rafael Devers each homered as part of a six-run seventh inning. Urias, who shares second base with Pablo Reyes and typically slots in at the bottom of the order, is batting .250 (7-for-28) since being acquired from Milwaukee and called up at the beginning of August.... Red Sox's Luis Urias: On bench again Wednesday
Urias is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals. Pablo Reyes will make his third straight start at second base as Urias rides the pine for a second consecutive game. The 26-year-old has batted just .200/.286/.240 through 29 plate appearances with Boston and is being treated as more of a utilityman than a regular.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Not in Tuesday's lineup
Urias is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at Washington, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Urias has a .526 OPS in eight games since being called up by Boston on Aug. 4 and will take a seat Tuesday after starting four of the previous five contests. Pablo Reyes will man the keystone and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: On bench Friday
Urias is out of the lineup Friday versus the Tigers. Pablo Reyes will start at second base and bat seventh. Urias recorded at least one hit in each of his first three games with the Red Sox but has since gone 0-for-8 with one walk and four strikeouts.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Takes seat Tuesday
Urias is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Royals. Urias had made four straight starts at second base since officially joining the Red Sox on Friday, but Pablo Reyes will take a turn there Tuesday versus the Royals and right-hander Brady Singer. Urias is 4-for-14 (.286) so far with Boston.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Garners third straight start
Urias will start at second base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. He'll pick up a third straight start at the keystone after going 3-for-7 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run in his first two games with Boston since being added to the 26-man active roster after he was acquired from the Brewers on Tuesday. Considering that the second-base spot has been a revolving door all season for Boston, manager Alex Cora may be content to give Urias a trial as the everyday option at the keystone, at least while Urias is putting together quality plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Called up by Boston
Boston recalled Urias from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Urias was acquired from the Brewers at Tuesday's trade deadline and will look to start fresh with the Red Sox in what has been an injury-stunted 2023 campaign. When healthy this season, the 26-year-old former top prospect has slashed just .145/.299/.236 with one home run in 20 major-league games. Christian Arroyo was designated for assignment Friday in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Luis Urias: Dealt to BoSox
The Brewers traded Urias to the Red Sox on Tuesday in exchange for right-hander Bradley Blalock, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. After a disappointing start to the season, the Brewers optioned Urias to Triple-A Nashville at the end of June. Since then, Urias has slashed .250/.392/.447 with four homers. It's unclear whether the Red Sox plan on keeping Urias in the minors or adding him to their MLB bench, but he could factor into the mix at second base down the stretch.... See More ... See Less
