  • Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Lands with Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks acquired Suarez from the Mariners on Wednesday in exchange for Seby Zavala and Carlos Vargas, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Suarez stumbled to a .232/.323/.391 batting line this season in Seattle, although he did hit 22 home runs and drive in 96 runs. The 32-year-old is owed $11.3 million in 2024 and has a $15 million club option (or $2 million buyout) for 2025. Suarez should provide more stability at a third base spot which was a revolving door for Arizona in 2023.

  • Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Belts 22nd homer in loss

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday. Suarez's eighth-inning solo blast was bittersweet in that it served as the only run of the night for the Mariners in a loss that eliminated Seattle from postseason contention. The homer also snapped a power drought for Suarez, who'd last left the yard Sept. 15. With 96 runs driven in on the season, Suarez enters Sunday's regular-season finale with an outside chance of reaching the 100-RBI mark for the third time in his career and first time since 2019.

Suarez was a consummate thorn in the side of Astros pitching all night after going hitless over his previous two games. The veteran slugger is mired in an 11-game homerless streak, but he's carrying a double-digit walk rate (10.3 percent) for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, while his 94 RBI are his most since 2019 and second on the Mariners behind Julio Rodriguez.

The veteran's ninth-inning knock also produced his 89th RBI of the season, his highest tally in that category since a 2019 campaign with the Reds when he compiled 103, the second-highest figure of his career.

Suarez went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and a run in a win over the Athletics on Monday. Suarez has served up a trio of multi-hit efforts in the last seven contests, a stretch where he's gone without a home run but still has a .375 average, 1.073 OPS, four total doubles, seven walks, four runs and an encouragingly low 15.6 percent strikeout rate.

Suarez extended his on-base streak to 11 games in the process, a stretch during which his two extra-base hits have both been homers. While Suarez, who's left the yard 18 times overall this season, is off the pace of what would be a third straight 30-homer campaign, he's now only 10 RBI from eclipsing the 87 he compiled in his debut Mariners campaign in 2022.
